Annual Report 2010-11

We are very proud of the work we have achieved over the last year. We have carried out a large number of projects and have written reports and recommendations about health and social care. We have responded to consultations and we have carried out Enter & View visits. You can read all about it in our Annual Report.

Carers' Champion Scheme

The Somerset LINk worked with a team comprising local representatives St. John, Carers UK, Wyvernhealth.com, Somerset County Council and carers' representatives to help roll out the Carers' Champion scheme across all surgeries in Somerset. The scheme aimed to get a trained Carers' Champion in each surgery in Somerset.

Mental Health Involvement

Somerset LINk received concerns from mental health service users about the lack of specific mental health user involvement services in Somerset. Involvement services allow service users to feed back their experiences and knowledge to the providers of services, so that service changes can be user or patient-centred. We heard people's views and wrote recommendations for an involvement service.

JSNA - West Somerset

As part of our work for the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA), we asked people in West Somerset for their views on health and social care. The themes that emerge reflect a community that is widely dispersed and concerned about the issues that perhaps inevitably go alongside this, such as isolation, a lack of local services, economic prospects and affordable and efficient transport links.

Community Chest

The LINk made a fund of £10,000 available to local community groups and charities in order to undertake projects and research that promotes and reports the public's views about health and social care. A website was published, a set of criteria for application of funds was created and a maximum limit of £1,000 per application was set. A group of LINks volunteers scrutinised the applications and decided which applicants should be awarded funding.
