March 2011 e-news
Hello from the Somerset LINk!
Where we have broken the printer in our excitement at printing off squillions of flyers for our two upcoming Spring events. While we wait for the nice man from Canon to arrive, here's our latest news:
Carers Survey 2011
Every carer in the UK is invited to complete the annual carers survey and we have been asked to encourage as many carers as possible to take part. The results will be made public during Carers Week 2011, being held between 13 and 19 June. Each year over 100,000 carers take part in Carers Week, organised by nine national charities, with over 1,200 local organisations arranging events and activities helping to make it the biggest awareness event in the UK. This year's theme is The True Face of Carers - what is the reality of caring in the UK in 2011? You can take part in the Carers UK Survey here.
29 March 2011: Selection event for new LINk volunteers!
The next year is a big year for the LINk as we prepare for HealthWatch - and we want to make sure that local people are in a position to make their stories heard and to ensure that the public is getting the best possible treatment from health and social care services. But to do this, we need a strong volunteer base of Somerset residents who can give their time and passion for health and care services to advocate for patients and the public and hold services to account. We are therefore re-launching our Steering Group and setting up a new 'Priorities Panel' which will guide the work of the LINk and help run projects. We are holding a Selection Event in Bridgwater on Tuesday 29 March 2011 which is open to anyone who wants to volunteer with the LINk. To find out more, download our flyer or information pack:
6 April 2011: 'LINk To The Future' Event
We can now confirm our first public event for 2011 on 6 April at the Bridgwater Rugby Club, with a theme of 'How the NHS is Changing (& what it all means!)' In the morning we have speakers talking about the 'NHS Reforms' and what they might mean for their organisations, including local GPs and local hospitals - and also a view about what this might mean for patients from Tina Thompson, South-West Manager for the Patients' Association. In the afternoon we will look at what the LINk has done this year, what we know so far about HealthWatch (the LINk's new identity from April 2012!) and what work we will be doing in the 'transition year.' This should be an interesting day and will hopefully inspire us all to make sure that the 'patient voice' continues to be heard in Somerset! The event (and lunch) is free so please book early! Download the flyer and application form here.
And finally ...
The latest consultations from the Department of Health: Consultation on the funding and commissioning routes for public health; transparency in outcomes, proposals for a public health outcomes framework; Healthy lives, healthy people: Our strategy for public health in England... and a few more (some easier to understand than others!). Find out more here.
The latest consultations from your local LINk: Have you told us what you think about patient transport in Somerset? Please let us know! Find out more and fill out our survey here: www.patienttransportsurvey.org.uk (Extended for one more week!)
That's all from us for now!
If you would like any of the above information in a different format - especially if you'd like a printed events flyer or Information Pack - then please let us know and we will be happy to pop one in the post for you (just as soon as this printer has been fixed...).
