GP Access Survey Report

GP Access Survey of Patients living in the Borough of Wokingham

Wokingham residents reported to the Wokingham LINk their concerns about difficulty in obtaining appointments with their GPs by telephone. Research indicated that this seemed quite widespread and a trial survey at a NHS Berks West Network meeting confirmed this. The LINk Steering Group members agreed that further investigation was necessary in order to establish the facts around the issue, therefore a working group was set up to address the topic.

The objective of the survey is to discover the experiences of “ease of access” to GP surgery appointments available to the population of Wokingham Borough using surgeries in the Wokingham Borough.

This report gives an account of the activities undertaken by the LINk GP Access sub group to identify the facts in relation to the procedures for arranging GP appointments across the Wokingham Borough.

The activities included:

  • A borough-wide public survey to identify the experiences of patients when accessing their GP surgery to arrange appointments.
  • Contact with GP practices for information about specific practice procedures, including survey work undertaken by working group members in GP practice premises.
