Carers Rights Day Logo Carers Rights Day - 5th December

Carers UK will hold their annual ‘Carers Rights Day’ on 5th December for the ninth year running. Groups and Organisations all over the UK will be holding events to raise awareness of carers rights.

The focus of this year’s event is ‘Making the Most of Your Money’ which is a fundamental issue for many carers. Carers UK estimate that a whopping £740 million of carers' benefits goes uncliamed every year. This year's day and events aim to highlight the importance of extra financial assistance for carers, as many live in poverty and are worse off as a result of caring. Aside from carers' benefits, an estimated 40-60% of disability benefits also go unclaimed. These figures alone are enough to show how important the awareness day is.

Last year there were more that 1,180 events held and people taking part included Celebrities, MPs, Doctors, Councillors and Mayors. There were workshops, Q&A sessions with MPs and Christmas lunches for carers. You too can hold your own event and show your support for all the hard working carers in your community. Make a difference to real lives.
